What’s New at Moody Gardens?

Posted on Friday, May 24, 2024

Lago Mar is less than 30 minutes from Galveston which means residents can easily take advantage of everything Moody Gardens has to offer. There’s plenty to explore, including immersing yourself in the underwater world at the Aquarium Pyramid, discovering the wonders of rainforests at the Rainforest Pyramid and delving into science at the Discovery Pyramid. There are also some great events starting up this month. Check them out!

Palm Beach

Moody Garden’s annual Palm Beach cooldown takes place weekends throughout May, ramping up to every day from June 1 to Sept. 2. Guests can sink their toes in a beautiful white sand beach, float down the lazy river, ride the wave pool and slip down the tower slides. There are deck chairs available on a first-come, first-served basis or you can rent a cabana. Hungry beachgoers can pick up lunch at Shoreline Café. The cost is $15-$35 for adults, $15-$28 for children ages 4 and up and seniors ages 65 and up. Children aged 3 and under are free.

BODY WORLDS RX: Prescriptions for Healthy Living

New to the Discovery Pyramid, BODY WORLDS RX features real human specimens preserved through plastination, a technique that removes the fluids from the body and replaces them with plastics that harden. The bodies on display compare healthy specimens with diseased ones. Diseases include the most common ailments such as back pain, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases like arteriosclerosis and heart infarctions, dementia and more. The hope is to inspire visitors to embrace a preventative lifestyle. The exhibit is included in the price of admission.

Dinner Cruise Aboard the Colonel Paddleboat

Set sail for food and fun aboard the Colonel Paddleboat, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 25. The Colonel Paddleboat is an authentic replica of an 1800s Paddlewheeler. You’ll be able to enjoy beautiful views, a barbecue buffet and a cash bar. Cost is $95 for adults and $85 for children ages 12 and under and seniors ages 65 and up. Reservations are required.
