Do You Do Tax-Free Weekend?

Posted on Sunday, July 21, 2019

A new school year is quickly approaching, but before that happens comes the many bargains to be found during Texas’ annual tax-free weekend.

The shopping fest happens Aug. 9-11 this year, and lucky for happy shoppers in Vanbrooke, the community is only about 10 miles from a roster of stores that can meet all your back-to-school needs.

Katy Mills is a shopping destination for those seeking high fashion without the astronomical price tag. Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF and H&M all feature contemporary styles at a price that won’t make a major dent in your checking account. Other outlets include Gap, Hollister, Banana Republic, J Crew and more. But not all stores are of the outlet variety — you’ll find plenty of familiar retailers from your favorite malls. With more than 175 stores — there’s something for everyone!

And if you haven’t been to Katy Mills in a while, it’s worth a visit. The mall completed a major refresh of its interior late last year, and shoppers can now enjoy a new dining pavilion, a Disney Jr. Play Zone, plush seating areas and more.

If your needs are more practical, the Shops at Bella Terra — also about 10 miles from Vanbrooke — offers a Walmart, Famous Footwear and Kohls, as well as a PetSmart, Best Buy and Party City. And while your dog toys, electronics and party paper products may not be tax-free, the state-allowed savings do apply to more than just everyday clothes and school supplies. Check out what you can also save on:

  • Baby diapers (cloth or disposable)
  • Baseball caps and jerseys
  • Children’s novelty costumes
  • Fishing and hunting vests
  • Work uniforms
  • Cowboy boots
  • Support hosiery
  • Graduation caps and gowns

Remember that items do have to be priced below $100. You can browse the entire list of qualifying items here.
