Largest Crystal Lagoons® Amenity in Texas Opens to Public Beginning July 15

The state’s largest Crystal Lagoons® amenity will open to the general public during the limited-capacity Summer Lagoonfest at Lago Mar in Texas City July 15 through Sept. 13.

The 12-acre lagoon with the longest waterfront perimeter in the United States (located at 3240 Lago Mar Blvd. in Texas City), will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

“The Lago Mar lagoon is so large it’s the ideal place to enjoy the summer while practicing social distancing,” said Uri Man, President, The Lagoon Development Company.  “It’s a controlled environment where the capacity is monitored and controlled so at no point will there be overcrowding.”

The Lagoon Development Company has retained VenuBlue, a nationally renowned destination attraction planner and operator, to manage the event.  In addition to enjoying the lagoon’s white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, guests will be able to play on an inflatable obstacle course, reserve cabanas and ride kayaks, sailboats and stand-up paddleboards. Food trucks will be on-site for food and beverage purchases.

“We’ve fast-tracked opening a section of the lagoon for ticketed use to satisfy the immense demand we’ve been seeing since the resident portion opened up in early June,” said Man. “We are making paradise accessible to Houstonians by opening our family-friendly beach life experience to the general public for a limited time.  We are recommending guests purchase tickets in advance to ensure access.”

A number of protocols will be in place, including operating at under 50 percent capacity to allow for adequate social distancing. Face masks are required for entry and in designated areas, such as food and beverage lines, merchandise locations and other high-traffic areas. Staff will also wear masks and undergo daily temperature checks and health screenings. Beach and lawn furniture will be cleaned and sanitized regularly, and all restrooms and other high traffic areas will be sanitized frequently.

“We’re following all local and state mandates and strongly encouraging all of our guests to follow CDC guidelines,” Man said. “Guests should come swim-ready and prepared to safely enjoy the outdoors and our beautiful, massive lagoon.  The Crystal Lagoons water cleaning technology is state-of-the-art providing guests with an opportunity to enjoy the idyllic beach paradise in a family-friendly environment.”

The lagoon offers a mile of shoreline — more than any other Crystal Lagoons amenity in the nation. It holds 24 million gallons of water and the lagoon’s liner system is large enough to cover the entire Houston Galleria mall or 14 NFL football fields. The lagoon surface is equivalent to an approximate 1,350 home swimming pools.

The lagoon is the signature feature of a 100-acre mixed-use entertainment district being built at the entrance to Lago Mar. Future phases of development around the lagoon are planned to include hotels, condo buildings, retail, dining, entertainment, as well as a separate pay-for-access beach club with multiple beaches for the general public with a cabana pool, a two-story swim-up bar on an island, a kid’s beach with water features, a floating obstacle course and a world-class watersports facility including kayaks, paddleboards and small sailboats. Also planned is an event center with a beachfront event lawn for corporate events, weddings and concerts.

Tickets for Summer Lagoonfest start at $10 for children under age 13 and $15 for those ages 13 and older. Children age 2 and under get in for free. Capacity is limited. COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced. Tickets prices are subject to change. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.summerlagoonfest.com. Tickets purchased at the box office on-site day of entry will be sold at the highest price levels.
