Land Tejas Donates 18th Lot for GHBA Benefit Home

Land Tejas Communities, a long-time supporter of the Greater Houston Builders Association, donated its 18th lot to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project. The lot is located in their community of Lago Mar. The 18 lot donations total $1,150,000 in contributions to this 41-year-old GHBA charity fundraiser.

“It is hard to wrap your head around this incredibly generous donation over the past 23 years,” said Patrick Mayhan, chairman of the Benefit Homes Project. “Their support of the GHBA and the charity defines their organization and the people who work there, people who are committed to bettering the lives of those in crisis situations. We can’t thank Al Brende and Land Tejas enough for all they do.”

Each year two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated land, construction management, materials, labor and services by GHBA members. These homes are constructed with upgrade materials and features and are sold at market value.

Lago Mar is the ideal backdrop for this seventh Benefit home that Chesmar constructed. It is a 2,033-acre master-planned community that features a 3,000-square-foot clubhouse complete with an expansive workout room, a catering kitchen, business center, restroom facilities and an equipped playground for the kids. The community recently opened its famed 12-acre Crystal Lagoon, a unique staycation destination. The lagoon features white sandy beaches, azure colored water and a beach boardwalk that is designed for casual dining.

Lago Mar is located off I-45 south in the Clear Lake-Galveston corridor. The community is within proximity to the Armand Bayou Nature Center, one of the largest urban wildlife refuges in the U.S., and the Space Center Houston as well as the Kemah Boardwalk. Summer fun is also south at Schlitterbahn Waterpark on Galveston Island and retail shopping is within proximity at the Tanger Outlet Mall.

Chesmar built its Hillcrest Plan and recently announced the home has sold and is expected to close in May. Proceeds from the sale of the home will be donated to HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. Since the project began 41 years ago, more than $12 million has been raised.

Chesmar’s Hillcrest plan is a one-story design that features four bedrooms with a game room option, three baths and a two-car attached garaged and a covered patio. An extended foyer leads to open casual dining, a family room, and an island kitchen with additional countertop dining. The study is convenient to the common area and the master suite.

“One of the very first things we did when setting up Land Tejas was to develop a partnership with the GHBA,” said Al Brende, owner and co-founder of the company. “When they approached us with the first Benefit home opportunity in 1998, we jumped at the chance. Not only does this cause help the greater Houston community, but it strengthens our bond with the builders who have been so loyal to us over the years. It is extremely gratifying to witness the impact the Benefit Homes Project has made by helping those in need.”
